Tiles or Laminate flooring – which do I choose?
One of the single most important items in your home is what floor covering you choose. Tiles or laminate flooring are probably two of the most common options but which should you choose?
Tiles or Laminate – compare the pair
These are probably the best two options for flooring in common areas of the home. Both are cheaper alternatives than hardwood floors or polished concrete.
Tiles are timeless. If you select a safe, neutral colour such as white, black or charcoal, your tiles are likely to stand the test of time. As your tastes and styles change, your flooring will always seamlessly integrate.
If you’re hoping to achieve the wooden floor look, laminate flooring is a budget savvy alternative.
This flooring option is incredibly popular for the variety of colours and styles available. Some ranges are also incredibly hard wearing (which can be useful if you have indoor pets).
How do I choose?
Think about your personal style and decor. What furniture do you have that will be coming into the new home with you? Are there major furniture items that are likely to be purchased new? Will these items suit a certain floor better than others?
If you are likely to furnish each room a little differently, tiles may be a more versatile alternative.
If you have your heart set on wood look floors but don’t have the budget to accommodate then laminate planks are the obvious choice.
Tips to avoid pricey variations
It is impossible for a builder to be able to accommodate every style and preference in their standard range. The best thing to do is let the builder know if you do have a specific look or style in mind. They can let you know if it’s included or likely to be an upgrade so that you can budget accordingly.
Don’t leave it to the last minute to think about what you want your floors to be. It helps to have a few very different wish list options before you go to your colour appointment. Your colour consultant will be able to use these examples to help suggest themes and alternatives.
