Kerbs and Gutters | Simone TV: Episode 32
Have you ever taken notice of the kinds of kerbs and gutters that are on your street? Different kinds of kerbs and gutters can have an impact when installing a new driveway. In this episode, Daniel explains the differences between the different kerb sides you may find and explains what different impacts they have on the installation of driveways.
In a lot of new development areas these days, where the road meets the land, they actually have a kerb and gutter like we’ve got right here. Most of the new estates do this. A lot of old areas on that they may have a square gutter just like it is actually on the other side of the road. Let us have a quick look and I want to show what that is. This is what I call square gutter.
How Kerbs and Gutters affect your home
How this can affect you and your home? A couple of reasons is if you have a square gutter made of a lot of old area some of the new areas may have not. You got to have to cut into that and do a laid back for your driveway. This could be extra cost. This is something that you may want to let your builders know if you do have a kerb & gutter and they won’t have to cut in the laid back.
Another thing that I want to come point out to you is where the position of the road drainage. Let us go have a look. As you can see here they try to put the drains in the center of the two houses. So you come right there square on to this drain as you can see here the boundary peg with one lot from each side. They generally put the drain in between the boundary line. Now the reason they do this is because you have to stay, you have to have your driveway a certain amount of distance away from this.
This may be an idea to mentioned things like this to your builder to take to consideration when designing your house. Imagine you put your garage on this side of your house and your driveway would have be close to this. The council may require you to come certain distance away and could affect the way you have your driveway so the option might be to flip your house and keep away from the gutter so you do not have any issue with council or anything like that too. If you do have this type of stuff or you do have the kerb one may be a few things you want to take to consideration when you doing your driveway. Use may be doing driveway or may be the builder will be doing the driveway as well.
In the comments below, tag some who actually have a kerb and gutter, or tag someone who has a square gutter, because either one can mean different things. And there are lots of different requirements with all different councils when it comes to driveways that you can and can’t do with these kind of things.
Thanks for watching. Bye for now.
