Retaining Walls | Simone TV: Episode 19
What is a retaining wall and what does it do? In this episode, Daniel shows you some of the different retaining walls that slopy blocks may require. Daniel also runs through what to look out for when buying a block of land to ensure that your new home is in a position that suits you.
You got your fence and underneath it you got the retaining wall. What is a retaining wall? A retaining wall is a wall that obviously retains a solid structure on the other side. There’s different ways to do it, you got the timber one and what will happen here is that they will drill some holes and put the sleepers and concrete them in.
Let us go the other side I want to show you actually how big of a step is actually retaining this one here. If you go in this side over here we will be able to see what exactly is retaining. You can see all high up we actually are. As you can see we can good probably be 600mm or 700mm higher than we were down there. This is what happens as you can see there was a very high difference.
The slope of the land actually cause the retaining wall higher and lower as we go along. As you shoot down there on this side retaining walls go down there.
Let’s go back on the other side I will show how the lower side is you going to be careful it is obviously always better to be on the higher side but one of the things is the land falls from the front to the back but the whole street falls that way (slope). If you got a house that sits here and the house that sits here and it goes down and down. Henceforth on one side you going to have may be a low side and one side will be the high side.
Just come down this way I will show you one more thing. Obviously we are in the low side and there is a big height difference. As we go to the back it starts getting died down and it starts died down to here. What we got in back here we can obviously see a big drop as well too behind me here. With these lands, this block is actually a lot higher than that block down there.

Here is another retaining wall. This retaining wall as you can see along the whole back of the land. This is where they actually cut the land of they actually have to make it work otherwise it can have big mess with gap. What they do they fill the land up here and make this land level and as you can see there is a massive retaining wall all the way up to side.
So you got two different types of retaining walls you see one there timbers sleepers and you see one here with bricks and this one here is made of bricks and concrete. There are a lot of different ways to do a retaining walls I would love to hear what type of retaining wall you did in your house or if you have a little retaining wall was it concrete, was it brick, was it timber let me know what you did.
Thanks for watching. Bye for now.
