Christmas: Part 3 | Simone TV: Episode 42
This is the final instalment of our Christmas series – Getting your home ready for Christmas: Part 3. In this episode, Daniel talks about keeping your home safe during the holiday season and cleaning up for storage spaces to accommodate for all the new toys.
On this episode we get ready for Christmas… again!
We are back for part three of the 6 tips for preparing your home for the Christmas Holidays. Now this is the third part of the three part series.
- Part One – we talked about maintaining your backyard and pest control.
- Part Two – we talked about checking your appliances and getting your home ready for the hot days.
If you missed these two videos, just click the link and watch them. We have really good topics covered.
Today, for the last part of the video series, we are going to talk about doing the household safety checks and a little bit of a spring clean.
Household Safety Check
Alright let’s get into the household safety check. First things first is smoke detectors. It’s a really good idea to head around and check your smoke detectors. Make sure the batteries are not expired and make sure they are all working properly. A lot of them do have little test buttons, so you can test the button and make sure their noises are making noise.
Remove leaves, twigs from the gutters
The next thing would be to remove the leaves and twigs from the gutters. Now, we are getting into the hot season so it might be a good idea to get up on your roof or maybe even get someone in to help you out to do these and clean all the gutters free of leaves. This is because bushfire season is coming up as well.
Next thing I want to talk about is the flammable materials like gas bottles, fuel-filled lawn; you might want to keep these things away from the heat. Because the last thing you know in a cool safe place maybe even a shed out of the way. Try not to leave them out in the exposed heat. You do hear stories that these things can actually explode. So the last thing you want to do is free up all the stuff, put them into a nice cool safe place.
So, back to my last point about getting your gutters ready. So this is the one thing you really want to get ready for. In preparations for that is you might want to consider having a Bushfire Escape Plan. This depends on where you actually live. If you are really close to that you may already have one in place, but you just don’t know where the bushfire can actually come from. Even if you don’t have one, you don’t think you’re in a particular area, it may not be a bad idea if you’re actually going to get a bushfire escape plan ready.
Now you know it might be a good idea if you do have young kids. You might want to get a bit of a drill prepped. You might be able to make it fun at the start. Get the kids together and say, ‘if this happens this is what we are going to do’. Just in case it does happen everyone knows where the bag is, the pets, and you need to know what you need to get in order to get out of there as quick as possible. Thus, having a bushfire escape plan could definitely be one thing you may be interested in doing.
Its Christmas time and we all know what happens in Christmas time besides the eating and spending the time with the family, we get a lot of presents. This might be a good time now in preparation for that is getting a bit of a spring cleaning happening. The first place I would start is probably the garage. I have a lot of the winter months that I know myself is to just start putting in the garage, then all of a sudden you can’t put it in the garage anymore.
This might be a great time to go into the garage and start throwing a lot about unneeded junk or unwanted stuff, and getting ready for new presents and new toys that I’m sure we’re all going to be getting. Then you might want to go inside and look at all the kid’s toys maybe even the clothes and look at the linens to see what you don’t actually need. What you can do is donate some stuff to charity and things like that. This may be a very very good time now preparing for a good spring clean.
If you don’t want to do it yourself, then there are people that can do this for you. So, if you want help with any of these sort of stuff, the spring cleaning and even getting your house ready, bushfire plans, then leave me a comment below, because I’ll see if I can put you in touch with the right people who can help you get these stuff sorted.
If you know anyone who can benefit from what we covered and talk about today, please tag them in the comments below and if you have any questions leave them in the comments below too and I’ll do my best to help you.
