Christmas: Part 1 Transcript
On this episode we are getting ready for Christmas.
Christmas is fast approaching! So what we thought to do is we got together and put a three-part series and give you six tips for preparing your home for Christmas.
Now, kids are coming home, they’re going to be home for two months, they’re going to get home from work, so we thought we’d take the time now throughout the month of December to give you tips to prepare your home and get ready for this exact thing.
Now the first thing that we are going to talk about is…
Maintaining your backyard
Mow the Lawn
The kids are going to be playing outside. You want to make sure that there’s no hiding places for snakes and spiders. The first thing that we really want to try and get done is obviously ‘Mow the Lawn’. Now, I’m not saying that you don’t upkeep your lawn but you may want to just take a little bit of a look at it to make sure that sometimes there’s a little bit of neglected spots especially if you do have a bigger land. There may always be some neglected spots that may not necessarily covering your normal thing. So this might be a good time here to find those spots with extra-long grass and get them cut.
Wading the Garden
Next thing would also be is wading the garden and the grass too. Now you’re going to think the kids are going to be playing outside. They’re going to be playing soccer and footy on the grass, and you don’t want weeds, rocks and sharp twigs lying around. Also, what they may be doing is getting a nice slippery slide that is ready to go. So the last thing you want to do is slow down that slide and get a bender weeds stuck in a bad spot.
Also, outside is getting all the pots and the plants free of logs, bricks, and even old toys. Let’s face that the kids are playing outside they will be leaving old toys, pets toys, and getting them all cleaned up and free because let’s face it, some of the time we’re playing cricket outside the kids are going to be playing and even me to dad’s friends. So you really need to get the backyard in order.
The Pool
Next thing is cleaning the pool. Obviously over the winter months you may have your pool covered, but you may not. There could be a lot of tree, shrubs and leaves that have actually blown into the pool. So you definitely want to get that pool ready if you have not have ready. You may actually have because we have had a few quite hot days in the past so your pool may already be ready to go. If it’s not, then definitely get it checked out, and get the pool cleaned. Even if you think it may be a little bit of a service, contact your pool guys and let them checkout the motors, and get them ready for the warmer days.
Outdoor Dining Set
Next thing is to check your outdoor dining set. This could be outside for quite a long time and may have been uncovered. Or you may have some other ones that you pull out just for the warmer months. Give them a good check. You don’t want your grandmother coming over for Christmas lunch and sit on the chair that shouldn’t have been sat on. We can leave this one out for your imagination. So check all your furniture, make sure there are no spider webs. You need to give them a good clean and get them all prepped for entertaining.
Get Your BBQ Ready
The last thing about maintaining your backyard is get your BBQ ready. Now, let’s say you have a gas BBQ, you really want to make sure you got the gas full. The last thing you want to do is you are there, ready to cook with the BBQ, and no gas. Make sure the gas is filled up, if not grab yourself a spare one because over summer you can go for a couple of different gasps of bottles. Get it all cleaned out including your utensils and all that ready to go.
When using your BBQ make sure you have plenty of fire, and plenty of coals ready to go. The last thing you want to do is to be heading out to the shops and getting everything ready for your BBQ. So, get them all ready now! This way you’re ready for a quick little BBQ on a nice warm day after you finished playing in the pool.
Pest Control
Okay, the next thing I want to talk about in this one is pest control. So, you’re well aware of the days are getting longer, and the days are getting warmer. This is a very good time for a lot of those creepy crawly creatures are starting to come out flying around the night too. So you definitely want to make sure that your pest control is up to date.
There are a lot of different ways that new homes get built taking care of pest control and even in the older homes too. It’s definitely a good idea to also get like the sprays done once a year. You may have a pest control system that you do have to maintain every year. Now is definitely a good time to look into getting that either resprayed and checked up on. So, it’s best to get yourself a bug zapper ready for the night.
